Donation helps Burlington families prepare for emergencies and disasters
(BURLINGTON, N.C., July 23, 2015) – Almost 300 volunteers from National Agents Alliance (NAA) and Foresters, an international financial services provider, joined forces with the American Red Cross to assemble and donate 1,000 emergency preparedness kits to the Burlington Housing Authority for distribution to those in need.
“We believe in helping people and this is another example of how we can do a small part to make a positive impact in our community,” said Andy Albright, President and CEO, National Agents Alliance. “This is a simple way to help address the need for emergency preparedness in homes around the country, and we are more than happy to do our part to make a difference.”
With only 66 percent of Americans feeling somewhat prepared for a disaster, it’s not surprising that only 39 percent say they have put together an emergency kit or learned a life-saving skill such as CPR or first-aid. In addition to assembling emergency kits, which include items such as an emergency blanket, batteries, a first aid kit and a flashlight, volunteers also received Red Cross preparedness training.
The event was modeled after Foresters Prepared with Care, a new volunteer program developed between Foresters and the American Red Cross to provide valuable preparedness training and emergency kits to families in communities across America. Foresters Prepared with Care is funded by Foresters Community Grants, a Foresters member benefit which enables members to apply for grants of up to $2,500 to deliver volunteer-based events in their own communities. The grants can be used to organize and deliver Prepared with Care events in their own communities.
“At Foresters, we help families plan ahead for unpredictable life events, while also empowering them to make a difference along the way” said Tony Garcia, president and CEO, Foresters. “It’s wonderful to see Foresters and NAA agents embracing this philosophy and reminding us that a simple act can have a big impact. These preparedness kits are sure to give Burlington families great peace of mind knowing that they’re ready should a disaster or emergency strike.”
The event continued NAA and Foresters rich tradition of giving back to local families and communities. NAA has hosted Red Cross blood drives previously at its headquarters, and partnered with Foresters last July to make major improvements and upgrades at the Burlington Boys and Girls Club.
